Welcome to Flemington Elementary!

Dear families and students,

The COVID-19 virus has caused many adjustments in our daily lives since March 13, 2020. Cancellation of school in our buildings, spring sports and a need to delay graduation for our very deserving class of 2020 are just some that have been cancelled or changed. Decisions have not been easy and many outside agencies including local health departments and state level departments have to be consulted to make the safest decision for all.

One rite of passage for high school students is the annual Prom. It is with deep regret that based on the Harrison County Health Department as well as guidance from our own and other local health departments, the Governors orders and the WV DHHR we will not be able to hold the 2020 Prom. Social distancing, and the need to keep total numbers of 25 or under in an enclosed space are why it must be cancelled for this year in any venue in our area. Plans are being considered for a way to hold something in the Fall to try and replace this activity in some manner.

The next few weeks will also allow us to close out this school year officially for all students. The central office staff, school administrators and school leadership teams have met to put together a plan that will be shared with families in the coming days. This schedule will show when belongings can be picked up and textbooks and other items belonging to the schools turned in for the year. We will continue the food drive thru on Tuesdays through June 2 as well as the learning activities.

School year 2019-2020 is one for the history books. However, the support of our students, families and school personnel has been phenomenal. It has taken all of us to accomplish what we have and truly proves why Taylor County is Taylor County Strong! Thank you for your continued support and may you and your family continue to be healthy and safe.

Warm regards,

Christy Miller, Superintendent

Dear Families and Students,

I hope this finds all of our families and students doing well and weathering this uncertain time with hope that Spring brings for renewal. While we remain apart, we remain connected with the contacts our teachers and others are making as well as our many online platforms. We are trying not to over or under communicate and if you are not receiving School Messenger calls and want to, please reach out to us through Mrs. Miller’s email at cemiller@k12.wv.us. You will also find our messages on county and school websites, Facebook and other platforms our schools use.

Taylor County Schools will be observing our Spring Break on the following dates: Thursday, April 9, Friday, April 10 and Monday, April 13, 2020. Assignments and Choice Boards may not reflect this but we do want to observe the days off in our calendar as planned. There will be no consequences if your student does not complete work that day even though it may show on the boards. Teachers are busy preparing for the upcoming weeks and we will observe any days currently out of the calendar not expecting work to be completed for those days.

We ask for you to remain safe, practice good hygiene and social distancing, the number of cases of coronavirus are expected to increase over the next two weeks. We will continue food service and will update you with that information as it becomes available. If you should need additional information, please reach out to us at 304-265-2497 or the email address above.

Warm regards,

Christy Miller, Superintendent

Today is Census Day and we need to be sure everyone is counted in Taylor County. Federal dollars to support schools, city and county governments as well as infrastructure are based on the Census count. Please visit my2020census.gov to be counted. It only takes 5 minutes to make sure Taylor County is fully counted.
