Welcome to Flemington Elementary!

Flemington Elementary SchoolFES 2019 Parade

April 6, 2020

Dear Families and Students,

I hope this finds all of our families and students doing well and weathering this uncertain time with hope that Spring brings for renewal. While we remain apart, we remain connected with the contacts our teachers and others are making as well as our many online platforms. We are trying not to over or under communicate and if you are not receiving School Messenger calls and want to, please reach out to us through Mrs. Miller’s email at cemiller@k12.wv.us. You will also find our messages on county and school websites, Facebook and other platforms our schools use.

Taylor County Schools will be observing our Spring Break on the following dates: Thursday, April 9, Friday, April 10 and Monday, April 13, 2020. Assignments and Choice Boards may not reflect this but we do want to observe the days off in our calendar as planned. There will be no consequences if your student does not complete work that day even though it may show on the boards. Teachers are busy preparing for the upcoming weeks and we will observe any days currently out of the calendar not expecting work to be completed for those days.

We ask for you to remain safe, practice good hygiene and social distancing, the number of cases of coronavirus are expected to increase over the next two weeks. We will continue food service and will update you with that information as it becomes available. If you should need additional information, please reach out to us at 304-265-2497 or the email address above.

Warm regards,

Christy Miller, Superintendent

Today is Census Day and we need to be sure everyone is counted in Taylor County. Federal dollars to support schools, city and county governments as well as infrastructure are based on the Census count. Please visit my2020census.gov to be counted. It only takes 5 minutes to make sure Taylor County is fully counted.

We hope you are staying safe and staying home practicing good hand washing hygiene and covering coughs and sneezes. Many questions have come in about how we are continuing to feed our students. We are now working with Project Hope and will be providing six drive thru sites on Tuesday, March 31st from 11-1. The drive thru sites will be located at Black Bear Customs parking lot, the Senior Center, Family Resource Network, Project Hope, Flemington Elementary School, and the gravel lot by Twin Oaks at Tygart Estates. We ask that you limit the number of people coming to pick up your meals as much as possible so we can adhere to social distancing. Please take note that we will update you with additional days and times for the food sites as we move forward.

Dear Families and Students,

Today, Governor Jim Justice stated the school closure would extend until April 20, 2020. This gives us a date to plan for reopening and consider options for continued learning for our students. We know this virus is on the move in West Virginia, and we will begin to put plans together to meet this opening date, understanding it may change again.

Learning has taken many twists and turns over the last two weeks and I look for it to do so once again. I do want to stress that we have met with principals discussing the volume and expectations of work that some students have received to complete for this week. While it is important to support continued learning, we must understand parents are not teachers and consider what is sent home to complete should not require a large amount of support. In the coming weeks, plans will offer opportunities to sustain skills already learned in different formats. There will be time to introduce new skills once we return. Schools will be reaching out to our students to assist and help them understand how the work will be used for completion and grading.

I want to thank you for your continued support of our system. The outpouring of thanks for the delivery of meals and connections to those who prepared them has been tremendous. Taylor County is a very caring and close community and it shows as we continue to support one another through this changing time. Connect with each other however that may be, reach out to those in need, and take care of your families. We look forward to a return soon allowing us to finish strong and united.

Taylor County Schools will not be delivering meals Monday, March 23rd as this was a previously scheduled Professional Learning Day. We will deliver Tuesday, March 24th for the remainder of the week. Included Tuesday will be the backpack food for the upcoming weekend. We will be leaving Grafton High School at 10:00 a.m. following our afternoon routes. We will remain in contact with our families and students as this remains a very fluid situation through School Messenger and our county and school websites. Also tomorrow we are providing an opportunity to pick up learning packets that may not have been delivered Friday. This is only for those expecting a printed packet as set up between you and your child’s teacher. The pickup location is Anna Jarvis Elementary between the hours of 10 and 12. Again, this is only for those who were expecting a printed learning packet from their child’s teacher.

In addition, we want to remind you to continue practicing social distancing by considering only one person going to local stores when shopping, using hand sanitizer and wipes as you enter and exit the stores, and practice proactive hand washing throughout the day.

Good afternoon FES students, parents, and families,

Today our buses delivered Learning Packets along with the daily breakfasts and lunches.  If you did not receive your child's learning packet, you may access it online at https://fes.taylorcountyboe.net/.  If you would like a hard copy of these assignments, you may pick it up at Anna Jarvis Elementary School on Monday, March 23rd between the hours of 10:00-12:00.  Your packet will have your child's name on it.

Please continue to monitor our school website and our school's FaceBook page for continuous information and updates.

Thank you!
